Choral Festival Competitions

 

COMPETITION A -Sligo Champion Grand Prix -Prize Winners Competition
The first prize winners of All Competitions automatically qualify for this competion.  If a choir wins more than one competition, it automatically qualifies for the first competition won only and second place winners qualify.

Programme – Two contrasting part songs – One of the pieces must be chosen from the repertoire already performed in the qualifying competition.

The second piece must not have been previously sung in any competition at the Sligo International Choral Festival.
Winner – Grand Prix Trophy and €750.00

COMPETITION B – For four-part Choirs – any combination of voices

The Mayor of Sligo Perpetual Trophy presented by the late Ald. Sean McManus.

Acceptance of entries for this competition will be at the discretion of the Music Advisory Committee.

Programme – two contrasting part-songs –the programme must be chosen as follows:
(i) A piece composed before 1850
(ii) Any part song contrasting with (i)
Winner – Trophy and €300.00 –runner-up €150.00


COMPETITION C –  for 4 part choirs S.A.T.B.

Canon Desmond McLoughlin Perpetual Cup presented by the friends of the late Canon McLoughlin.

Programme – 2 contrasting 4-part songs of a lighter style e.g. Popular/Jazz/Musical/Light Opera.
Winner – Silver Cup and €300.00 – runner-up €150.00


COMPETITION D – for Equal Voices Female

The Cat & The Moon Trophy presented by Ms. Martina Hamilton

Open Programme – Two contrasting 3 or 4-part songs
Winner – Trophy and €200.00 – runner-up €100.00


COMPETITION E – for Equal Voices Male

The Joe Harte Memorial Trophy presented by The Harte Family

Open Programme – Two contrasting 3 or 4-part songs
Winner – Trophy and €200.00 – runner-up €100.00


COMPETITION F – Sacred Music 

Rev. Michael O’Connor Memorial Trophy
for Sacred Music Choirs –
Programme – any combination of voices.  Two contrasting motets – in at least 4 parts, one of which must be composed before 1850.

Winner – Trophy and €200.00 – runner-up €100.00


COMPETITION H – The Doreen Mitchell Shield for Gospel Choirs

Programme Two pieces must be chosen from the recognised Gospel Choral Music repertoire.
Winner – Trophy and €200.00 – runner-up €100.00


COMPETITION I – The Sligo Park Hotel Trophy for Barbershop Choruses presented by The Sligo Park Hotel –
Programme – Competitors will be expected to perform a selection from the Barbershop Repertoire not exceeding 12 minutes in duration.
Winner – Trophy and €200.00 – runner-up €100.00


COMPETITION J – The Alfies Barbershop Trophy for Barbershop Quartets
presented by the Mahon Family

Programme – Competitors will be expected to perform a selection from The Barbershop Repertoire not exceeding 12 minutes in duration.
Winner – Trophy and €200.00 – runner-up €100.00


Competition K:  Youth Choirs

Programme

  • 2 contrasting pieces – any combination of parts – any combination of voices

Age limit: All singers must be under 21 years of age


COMPETITION L –  for Workplace Choirs

Programme

  • Two contrasting pieces, any combination of voices in two parts or more.
  • All choir members must be employee’s of a single firm / organisation.

Winner: Trophy + €200.00 Runner up: €100.00


COMPETITION O – The Tony McConnell Memorial Trophy for Secondary School Choirs presented by the McConnell Family

Programme – Two contrasting songs, one of which may be sung in unison
Winner – Trophy


COMPETITION P- The Maura Butler Perpetual Trophy for Secondary School Choirs presented by the Butler Family.

Programme – Two contrasting part songs. – Three or Four part
Winner – Trophy
