COMPETITION A

Sligo Champion Grand Prix – Prize Winners Competition

The first prize winners of Competitions B, C, D, E and F automatically qualify for this competion.

Programme – Two contrasting part songs – One of the pieces must be chosen from the repertoire already performed in the qualifying competition. The second piece must not have been previously sung in any competition at the 2015 Sligo International Choral Festival.

Winner – Grand Prix Trophy and €750.00


 

COMPETITION B

The Mayor of Sligo Perpetual Trophy

presented by the late Ald. Sean McManus

– for four-part Choirs – any combination of

voices. Acceptance of entries for this competition will be at the discretion of the Music Advisory Committee.

Programme – two contrasting part-songs – the programme must be chosen as follows:

(i)            A piece commemorating the 1916 Rising and / or the First World War.

(ii)           Any part song contrasting with (i) Winner – Trophy and €300.00 – runner-up €150.00


 

 

COMPETITION C

Canon Desmond McLoughlin Perpetual  Cup

presented by the friends of the late Canon McLoughlin

– for 4 part choirs S.A.T.B.

Programme – 2 contrasting 4-part songs of a lighter style e.g. Popular/Jazz/Musical/Light Opera. Winner – Silver Cup and €300.00 –

runner-up €150.00

 


 

COMPETITION D

The Cat & The Moon Trophy

presented by Ms. Martina Hamilton

– for Equal Voices Female – Open

Programme – Two contrasting 3 or 4-part songs Winner –  Trophy and €200.00 –

runner-up €100.00


 

COMPETITION E

The Joe Harte Memorial Trophy

presented by The Harte Family – for Equal Voices Male – Open

Programme – Two contrasting 3 or 4-part songs Winner – Trophy and €200.00 –

runner-up €100.00


 

COMPETITION F

Rev. Michael O’Connor Memorial Trophy

presented by Electric Ireland

– for Sacred Music Choirs – any combination of voices

Programme – Two contrasting motets – in at least 4 parts, one of which must be composed before 1850.

Winner – Trophy and €200.00 – runner-up €100.00


 

COMPETITION H

The Doreen Mitchell Shield for Gospel Choirs

Programme – 2 pieces must be chosen from the recognised Gospel Choral Music repertoire.

Winner – Trophy and €200.00 – runner-up €100.00


 

COMPETITION I

The Sligo Park Hotel Trophy for Barbershop Choruses

presented by The Sligo Park Hotel –

Programme – Competitors will be expected to perform a selection from the Barbershop Repertoire not exceeding 12 minutes in duration. Winner   –   Trophy   and   €200.00   – runner-up

€100.00


 

COMPETITION J

The Alfies Barbershop Trophy for Barbershop Quartets

presented by the Mahon Family

Programme – Competitors will be expected to perform a selection from The Barbershop Repertoire not exceeding 12 minutes in duration. Winner – Trophy and €200.00 –

runner-up €100.00


 

COMPETITION L

The W.B. Yeats Competition

presented by The Yeats Society.

Programme – 1 piece, any combination of voices in 2 parts or more set to a text by W.B. Yeats.

Winner: Trophy + €300.00 Runner up:  €100.00


 

COMPETITION O

The Tony McConnell Memorial Trophy for Secondary School Choirs

presented by the McConnell Family Programme – Two contrasting songs, one of which may be sung in unison Winner – Trophy

In 2014 the Kilkenny Presentation School Choir won the Tony McConnell Memorial Trophy for Secondary School Choirs.
