Welcome to Sligo International Choral Festival 2014

50 Choirs coming to Sligo for the 26th SLIGO INTERNATIONAL CHORAL FESTIVAL from November 14th-16th 2014.

SINCE 1988 – 1,100 Choirs – 44,000 Singers – 107,000 Bednights - €14,000,000 to the local economy – surely this record speaks for itself!

The 26th Annual SLIGO INTERNATIONAL CHORAL FESTIVAL will take place from Thursday, Nov. 14th  to Sunday, Nov. 16Th 2014. The organising committee are indebted to Sligo County Council, Failte Ireland, Tourism Ireland, I.T. Sligo, The Western Development Commission and our Media Partners, The Sligo Champion for their continued sponsorship and support.

Due to the hard work and commitment of the organising committee down through the years, the event is now established as the 2nd largest Choral Festival in the 32 counties of Ireland – some say the best!!

62 Choirs attended the 2013 Festival last November. It is estimated that the revenue generated in the ligo area from the visiting 2,000 choristers, in what is termed the off-peak tourist season, is in the region of €1 million.

Highlights of the Festival include The Opening Concert on Friday, Nov. 14th featuring The Sligo Academy of Music Sinfonietta, St. Mary's Community Youth Choir and The Folleso Male Voice Choir from Norway.

The competition venues for 2014 are The Gilooly Hall and The Cathedral Of The Immaculate Conception.

50 Choirs (so far) will take part in the 12 competitions over 2 days, for €4,000.00 in prizemoney and many splendid trophies. As well as the competitive element of the Festival, we will have concerts, workshops, outdoor performances etc. Competition categories include Mixed Choirs, Male Voice, Female Voice, Barbershop, Gospel, Sacred Music and Schools – so all genre of choirs are covered!  We will also repeat the very sucesful competition for songs set to music from the W.B. Yeats poetry collection.

The 2014 Adjudicators are Niamh Crowley, Dr. Joseph McKee, Bernie Sherlock and Graham Sutton. Bernie Sherlock, Musical Director of the renowned New Dublin Voices, will conduct a workshop for School Choirs on the Friday morning.

As usual, choirs will entertain shoppers on the Saturday and will enhance the various religious services on the Sunday.

A new project this year will see several Sligo School Choirs taking part in S. S. S. - SLIGO SCHOOLS SING – this will take place in The Johnston Court Shopping Centre on the Friday afternoon – further details later!

We look forward to another feast of Choral Music in November to celebrate our 26th Anniversary!
