It is our privilege to welcome you all as we prepare to celebrate the 2016 Sligo International Choral Festival which will take place from Friday 11th – Sunday 13th November. Now in its 28th year we are confident that the annual International Choral Festival in Sligo is recognised as a flagship cultural event. It offers a platform for the many visiting Choirs and lovers of the Choral Music experience.
Of special interest this year is Competition B which will reflect the music associated with the 1916 Rising and the First World War. In conjunction with Sligo County Council the festival is proud to participate in this national year of commemoration. With many events taking place in venues around the town of Sligo there will be great opportunities for audiences to engage with the choral music on offer over the 3 days of the festival.
One of the highlights of the choral festival is the opportunity for choirs to sing in different venues throughout Sligo town on Saturday and Sunday. These fringe events in pubs, shopping centres, local businesses and churches along with the Festival Club provide opportunities for choirs to experience the hospitality of the people of Sligo in a relaxed musical environment. The festival provides a wonderful occasion for visiting choirs to experience the vibrant community spirit underpinning the programme and festival events. It is in these fringe experiences where, some say, the “real singing” is done!! No doubt, many choirs will entertain shoppers on the Saturday and will enhance the various religious services on the Sunday morning. Please indicate your participation in one or both of these, on the entry form.
As we do every year, we would urge all choirs to book their accommodation as soon as possible. We look forward to welcoming you and your choir/quartet/chorus to Sligo in November to celebrate our 28th Anniversary!
